The second month of the year! By about halfway through this month, I expect to have to push really hard to keep up with my goals because that’s about the time that I usually slip back into old habits. Here’s hoping my drive can persevere and make this year different. To start off the month, I’ll be sharing some goals I want to accomplish in February and talking about what I’m looking forward to this month.

Books I’m Currently Reading: Three

I’m about 25% of the way through the audiobook Emma by Jane Austen, and I’m hoping to finish it by the end of the month. I’m also reading History is All You Left Me by Adam Silvera as well as Filthy Animals by Brandon Taylor. I’d like to read one more book in addition to those previously mentioned, or a few manga volumes before the month’s end.

Writing Goals: Two chapters in my WIP novel

As I’ve mentioned in a previous blog post, I’m currently in an advanced creative writing workshop class and the goal I’ve set for myself in that class is to write the first four chapters of my fantasy novel. We have several workshops throughout the semester, and during two of them, our work is discussed by the entire class. As part of meeting the deadline for my workshop, I need to have two chapters completed by my workshop date near the end of the month. I’m definitely pushing myself with this schedule, but that’s the point of the class.

Media I’m Excited to Consume

I’ve been watching season 2 of How I Met Your Father on Hulu and I’m looking forward to watching more episodes as they come out weekly. The fourth season of You releases on Netflix in just over a week and I’m really looking forward to watching the first volume when it comes out. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever comes to Disney+ this month and I’m curious to see how the Black Panther story will develop following the early passing of Chadwick Boseman. I’m also planning on watching the movie version of the Matilda musical on Netflix this month because the dance sequences and songs that I’ve seen all seem amazing.

What I’m Looking Forward to this Month

My university hosts an annual formal in mid-February and I’m planning on attending with a few friends who I initially met on a study abroad trip last year, and I’m really excited about that!

I’m also looking forward to spending a lot of time writing my novel. Writing it always makes me feel super light and happy.

A Message for End-of-February Shan

This is the month when classes start to get into high gear. You’ve been working really hard so far and I know you can keep this momentum up, regardless of what gets hurled your way. You got this. I love you.

Thanks for reading! Let’s make this a great month!!
