mcu tier list

Last semester I watched every single MCU movie in the timeline. I’ve been a Marvel fan since Captain America, but until that point, I hadn’t seen a lot of the phase one or two films. Now, I’ve seen all of the Marvel main-series films except for Werewolf by Night, Black Panther 2, and Ant-Man 3, and I have opinions.

My tier list rankings list is graded as follows:

  • S+: Personal favorites, I could watch them over and over again
  • S: Super well done, love a lot
  • A: Enjoyable, worth re-watching
  • B: I liked it
  • C: Okay, but I don’t feel a need to ever re-watch it
  • D: Burn it

S+ Ranked Movies

Captain America: Blame it on the nostalgia but it’s still my favorite Marvel movie of all time. Maybe it’s the fact that it was what introduced me to the MCU, or maybe it’s because it’s set during World War II — who’s to say?

Avengers: I could watch this movie on repeat and not get bored. I’m a sucker for the unlikely heroes coming together storyline.

Avengers Infinity War: It’s so well done and heart-wrenching and is genuinely one of the best movies from the franchise.

Shang-Chi: This is just one of my favorite movies in general — I didn’t expect to like it as much as I did. After watching Iron Man 3, I only grew to like it more.

Guardians of the Galaxy: This movie’s soundtrack just reminds me of fun family road trips in middle school and good memories from middle school in general. Oh, and look at that, it’s another unlikely heroes coming together story.

The Spider-Man Trilogy: This is the only movie series within the MCU that I think holds up all the way through. The acting is great, the stories are interesting, and I could never get tired of watching Tom Holland and Zendaya.

S-Ranked Movies

Avengers Age of Ultron: Wanda is fleshed out in this movie so how could I not love it? Plus the scene where all the Avengers are trying to lift up Thor’s hammer is just perfect.

Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special: I watched this during the holiday season and really enjoyed it. It’s funny and clever and honestly a good holiday movie.

Black Panther: This movie creates such a beautiful world with awesome characters. I’m looking forward to watching the sequel soon.

WandaVision: Top-tier media. There really isn’t anything else to say. It’s just amazing.

A-Ranked Movies

Avengers Endgame: I like aspects of this movie which is why it’s an A, but I’m not a fan of the time-travel trope.

Thor Ragnarok: Such a hilarious movie and so worth re-watching.

Captain America Winter Soldier: Bucky. That’s all.

Captain America Civil War: The way they introduce Spider-Man in this movie is hilarious to me. Oh, and the story is just really engaging, too.

Ant-Man: It’s a fun heist movie, what can I say? It’s just a fun movie to watch.

Iron Man: I didn’t think that I would like Tony Stark as much as I did, but after watching this movie for the first time last year I developed a much deeper appreciation for Tony.

Doctor Strange: Did someone say ego death? Because I loved watching Stephen Strange get knocked right on his ass and become a better man for it.

Loki: Just a fantastic show and I can’t wait to see more of Sylvie.

B-Ranked Movies

Captain Marvel: Controversial, but I actually enjoyed this movie. I’m looking forward to seeing more of Carol Danvers in The Marvels.

Black Widow: Another controversial take, but I like heist movies. Plus the main characters were witty.

Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2: The storyline wasn’t my favorite, but the twist made it more interesting to me.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: I personally really like Ghost’s character and I’m really looking forward to seeing more of her in Thunderbolts.

Iron Man 2: I enjoyed seeing the different sides of Tony in this movie. It was just an enjoyable story to watch unfold.

Iron Man 3: I love to see a movie where a powerful character is stripped away and left with nothing. Plus he meets Harley in this film and he was great.

Moon Knight: I really enjoyed this show. The twists, the turns, the characters, the music, the sets, all fantastic.

Defenders: Another band of unlikely heroes coming together storyline!!! I watched all the necessary seasons in the Defenders Saga JUST to watch this show and ended up really enjoying it. I wish that there was a season two because I love seeing Matt Murdock, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Danny Rand all together on-screen.

Jessica Jones: While this was tough to watch at times, the payoff was beyond worth it and was beyond engaging. I loved the villain and I loved how season one ended. I’ve yet to watch season two or three yet but plan to at some point.

C-Ranked Movies

Thor Love and Thunder: The storyline was alright but I wasn’t super invested in the story after the Guardians left LMAO.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness: While the multiverse angle was interesting, the story didn’t really have a lasting impact on me.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier: This show had a lot of moving parts that made watching it just a little difficult. I hope Sam Wilson will get his own movie sooner rather than later.

Hawkeye: I hadn’t watched Daredevil when I watched this so that kind of took me out of the immersion, but maybe I’ll enjoy it more now.

Ms. Marvel: Another show that got a lot of hate online, but I enjoyed it for the most part. I’m looking forward to The Marvels coming out this summer.

I Am Groot: It was funny and I enjoyed it, but it was just a fun series of shorts with no important world-building plot.

Daredevil: Some episodes and arcs were great. Season one was very enjoyable. Season two was not. I’ve yet to watch season three and I’m going to watch it before Daredevil Reborn releases, but I’m just hoping there’s some improvement from the previous season.

Luke Cage: Season one really hooked me in, but not enough to push me to watch season two yet. I just remember wanting a Luke Cage-Jessica Jones team-up but I know that that won’t come to be.

D-Ranked Movies

Thor: The Thor franchise got off to a rocky start but found its footing eventually.

Thor the Dark World: Another instance of a movie just lacking in engaging characters that failed to draw me in.

Eternals: I just — didn’t like it. The story was predictable and the characters weren’t very interesting.

She-Hulk: I actually enjoyed this series throughout watching it despite the overwhelming hate — but the season finale just tanked it for me :/

Iron Fist: I’ve only watched season one so far but I can not STAND Danny Rand’s voice, it makes it hard to watch. Plus the storylines are just eh.

And that’s all of the movies I’ve watched to date! I hope you enjoyed my analyses.
